Prices lower on Taipei bourse

Taipei, Jan. 14 (CNA) Taiwan's share prices finished lower Wednesday, with the weighted index, the market's key barometer, moving down 10.89 points, or 0.24 percent, to close at 4,521.47.
Suffering a drop following gains of the previous day, the local bourse opened higher at 4,538.25 and fluctuated between 4,579.24 and 4,521.47 during the day's trading. A total of 3.05 billion shares changed hands on market turnover of NT$60.76 billion (US$1.83 billion).
Four of the eight major stock categories lost ground, with plastics and chemicals shares moving down the most at 0.7 percent.
Machinery and electronics shares declined 0.5 percent, paper and pulp issues dropped 0.12 percent, and foodstuff issues shed 0.06 percent.
The four other major stock categories gained ground, with cement stocks moving up the most at 1.3 percent. Construction issues advanced 1.21 percent, banking and financial shares rose 0.93 percent, and textile stocks increased 0.12 percent.
Gainers outnumbered losers 827 to 653, with 277 stocks remaining unchanged.
Foreign investors were net sellers of shares worth NT$3.34 billion.
