Mexican families get houses funded by Mel Gibson

Mexican officials have presented victims of Hurricane Stan with 109 homes that were partly funded by a donation from filmmaker Mel Gibson.
Gibson filmed his 2006 Mayan-language movie "Apocalypto" in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz. Gibson donated $1 million to replace storm-damage homes in Veracruz and in neighboring Chiapas state.
The office of Veracruz Gov. Fidel Herrera said Tuesday the government and a private charity pitched in the rest of the cost of the homes in the town of San Andres Tuxtla. He did not say how much each cost.
Stan struck Central America and southern Mexico in October, 2005. The storm damaged 40,000 homes in Mexico and killed 71 people in Chiapas. It left 654 dead in Guatemala, and 71 dead in El Salvador.
