New Belgian government to be sworn in

The new Belgian government will be sworn in with expectations that it will continue the policies of its predecessor which fell apart amid a scandal.
New Prime Minister Herman van Rompuy takes office after Yves Leterme quit the premiership along with his justice minister on Dec. 19 amid allegations they interfered in a court case dealing with the bailout of Fortis Bank.
The rest of the new Cabinet is much the same as the previous alliance of Christian Democrats, Liberals and Socialists. It will be sworn in Tuesday and faces a parliamentary vote Friday.
Leterme and former Justice Minister Jo Vandeurzen have denied any role in trying to influence an appeals court to approve Fortis' sale to France's BNP Paribas.
