Lawyer: Sudanese opposition leader detained

The lawyer of a prominent Sudanese opposition leader says security troops have detained his client and taken the man from his house in Khartoum to an undisclosed location.
Lawyer Moaz Hadra said it was not clear why Ali Mahmoud Hassanein was detained early Monday. Hassanein is a senior member of the Democratic Unionist Party and a vocal critic of the government.
He has spoken against restrictions on press freedoms and security abuses.
Government officials were not immediately available for comments.
The government recently approached the opposition DUP for support in its efforts to stave off international prosecution charges against President Omar al-Bashir for crimes in Darfur.
