Officials: Tests show Cherepanov was blood doping

Russian investigators say blood and urine samples show late hockey star Alexei Cherepanov engaged in blood doping.
The 19-year-old Cherepanov collapsed Oct. 13 while on the bench for Omsk club Avangard in Russia's Continental Hockey League, or KHL. The player, a top prospect for the NHL's New York Rangers, died a short time later.
Russia's federal Investigative Committee released a statement Monday saying the samples allow a conclusion "that for several months Alexei Cherepanov engaged in blood doping." There was no elaboration.
The statement also says Cherepanov suffered from myocarditis, a condition where not enough blood gets to the heart, and should not have been playing professional hockey.
It adds legal action may be taken against club doctors.
