Government set to renovate traditional markets: MOEA

Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) The Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) agreed Monday to a two-year project that will help local authorities renovate or rebuild traditional markets throughout Taiwan, government officials said Monday.
The project, proposed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to help boost employment, will require a budget of around NT$4 billion (US$121 million) to upgrade around 440 traditional markets across the country over the next two years, ministry officials said.
Apart from improving the safety and hygiene of aging traditional markets across the country, the MOEA estimates that the project will safeguard the jobs of some 92,000 vendors and help create another 19,000 new job opportunities.
