Names in the Game

In his 12 NFL seasons, Minnesota Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell has seen just about every scenario a kicker can see.
At least after Sunday's chaotic finish, now he has.
Confusion enveloped the final 30 seconds of the game after the Vikings drove into field goal range trailing 19-17.
Facing a second-and-12 from the New York 32, the Vikings appeared to want to get one more offensive play off to get a little closer. But the call was slow to come in, and quarterback Tarvaris Jackson finally had to burn the team's final timeout with 9 seconds to play.
After a little debate, Longwell was sent out for the 50-yard field goal try. The Giants called timeout to try to ice him, but then the Vikings sent out their offense on to the field for one more play.
Jackson threw incomplete to Bobby Wade and Longwell came out to kick again. The Giants used yet another timeout before Longwell's boot finally sailed through the uprights.
"It was just an odd ending," Longwell said. "You try your darndest to maintain focus and keep in a routine and a rhythm. When you're out there and you get called off and then go back on, it's a little different."
It was his sixth field goal of at least 50 yards, and even defensive end Jared Allen was impressed with how the kicker handled the situation.
"It was impressive," Allen said. "That's why I'm not a kicker. I probably would have shanked it to the left."

CHICAGO (AP) _ In a boost to the city's bid to host the 2016 Olympics, Chicago officials announced a new program to help young athletes train for Paralympic sports.
The Chicago Paralympic Development Program is open to Chicago-area youth and will help provide more training for coaches, additional equipment and resources. The goal is better trained Paralympians.
Cities that host the Olympics also then host the Paralympic Games.
