Kosovo guerillas given 30-day detention

A judge has ordered a group of former Kosovo guerillas held for 30 days while Serbian authorities investigate them for alleged murder, rape and torture of Serb civilians.
War crimes court spokeswoman Ivana Ramic said Monday that a Belgrade judge ordered the detention because the nine are accused of severe crimes and are considered a flight risk.
The nine were transferred to Belgrade after being arrested during raids Friday in a southern area bordering Kosovo. A tenth suspect also arrested Friday is being held in the southern area.
The prosecutor says the 10 are among 17 former rebels suspected of alleged atrocities against Serb civilians in the eastern Kosovo town of Gnjilane after Kosovo's 1998-99 war.
