Officials: Bomber kills 2 north of Afghan capital

Officials say a suicide car bomber detonated his vehicle near the residence of a governor in a province north of the Afghan capital. Two people were killed and 17 were wounded, including two U.S. troops.
Police official Faiz Mohammad says the attacker appeared to target a U.S. military Humvee traveling near the governor's home in Parwan province Monday.
Sgt. 1st Class Joel Peavy, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition, says it is still trying to determine if a military vehicle was involved. Peavy confirmed that two American troops were among the wounded.
Afghanistan faces a rising Taliban insurgency that is strongest in its south and east but which has also managed to carry out assaults in and around the capital.
