Israeli and Hamas truce demands

A six-month truce between Israel and Hamas broke down this month, leading to the Israeli offensive. Here's a look at the main reasons cited by Israel and Hamas for the breakdown.
Hamas: Says Israel has breached agreements by imposing a painful economic blockade on Gaza, staging military strikes into the densely populated coastal strip and continuing to hunt down its operatives in the West Bank.
Israel: Initially said it was interested in prolonging "understandings" brokered with Hamas by Egyptian mediators. Over the past week, however, Israeli diplomats have been sending signals to foreign governments that Israel will not tolerate the spiraling number of cross-border rocket attacks from Gaza and a harsh military response should be expected. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni was blunt after talks with Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak. "Enough is enough," she said.
