H5N2 confirmed in south Taiwan

The Cabinet-level Council of Agriculture (COA) confirmed yesterday that the recent chicken deaths on a poultry farm in southern Taiwan's Kaohsiung County were caused by the low-pathogenic H5N2 bird flu virus.
The COA reiterated, however, that the H5N2 virus is, so far, not known to jump to humans.
COA Minister Chen Wu-hsiung told a news conference that his agency has been undertaking disinfection measures and monitoring wild and migratory birds. The COA said it is still investigating the source of the infection.
