Romanian electoral campaign begins

Electoral campaigning has started in Romania before Nov. 30 parliamentary elections.
The campaign is taking place amid protests by teachers, health workers and other public sector workers seeking higher wages.
Some 3,000 candidates are running on party lists for 315 lower house seats and 137 Senate seats. A party needs 5 percent of the vote to get into Parliament.
The result is expected to lead to a coalition government. Favored are the leftist Social Democracy Party, the centrist Democratic Liberal Party and the center-right Liberal Party.
The Liberals lead the current minority government.
Election officials said Friday that 18.3 million people are eligible to vote.
