Express-Network on Wheels (NoW) Rolls into Taiwan and Demonstrates Advanced Technologies including Latest Disaster Preparedness Solutions
Taipei, TAIWAN, October 16, 2008 – Cisco today kicked off the Taiwan leg of the Asia tour of the Cisco Express-Network on Wheels (NoW), a mobile showcase featuring US$1 million worth of key Cisco technologies. The 40-foot retro-fitted container serves as a platform to bring Cisco's advanced technology to the doorsteps of over 20,000 customers, business owners and individuals in Taiwan and across Asia.
The network has become the platform for business operations in almost all organizations around the world. Cisco is dedicated to bringing the latest technologies to Taiwan with the goal of helping contribute to improving the competitiveness of the Taiwan market. Cisco Express NoW is one of the key initiatives in achieving this goal. The mobile showcase will spend the next four weeks in several cities in the country including Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung and Hsinchu.
One of the key aspects demonstrated involves better assisting Taiwan's government and businesses to better prepare for disaster situations such as storms and earthquakes.

Mayor of Taiwan HAU Long-bin; Country Manager of Cisco Taiwan WU Chuan-hui; Director of Asia Sales, Channel, Marketing and Commercial, Christian Hentschel; ex-Chief Strategist, CIO Office, Government of Ontario, Canada Cisco Executives Joan McCalla; Principal of NTUST Chen Tsai-Hsiang; and Principal of ISU Fu Shen-Li were in Taipei to officiate at the launch of Cisco Express-NoW today.

This is part of Cisco's commitment to contributing to the national transformation by bringing in advanced and emerging technologies as well as transfering the skills needed to use those technologies," said Mr. Wu."With the recent typhoons and other natural disasters Taiwan has suffered this year, the need for improved disaster preparedness has never been more important. Cisco's advanced technologies will help enhance the rescue work and maintain business continuity during and after emergencies and disasters. For example, our unified wireless and communications solutions greatly help facilitate collaboration among different public services and disaster management operations while our remote working solutions help keep businesses and workers connected and operational at such times," added Mr. Wu.

In addition to disaster preparedness, Cisco Express-NoW also showcases other state-of-the-art technology solutions such as unified communications, public safety, digital signage, building automation, energy control and facilities management systems that enable the human network to connect people across boundaries. Equipped with satellite and mobile Internet connectivity and rapidly deployable communications, this specially outfitted container can also be called on to provide essential communications services for first responders in the event of a natural disaster.

The mobile showcase also features solutions from regional sponsors CNA, EMC, Emerson Network Power, Linksys, Panduit and SingTel. Cisco Express-NoW is scheduled for a four-week tour around Taiwan, stationing in NTUST in Taipei (October 16 - 17), ISU in Kaohsiung (October 20 - 22), Tunghai University in Taichung (October 24, 27), NCTU in Hsinchu (October 29 - 30), CHT Emome Flagship Store in Taipei(November 3-6), and the last I-Lan University in ILan(November 7).
