Chavez posed to take over pipe manufacturer

Lawmakers loyal to President Hugo Chavez plan to pave the way for the expropriation of pipe maker Helvesa by declaring the company a "public utility."
The president's congressional allies are expected to approve a proposal this week that would let the government take control of Helvesa, which produces pipes for aqueducts and oil pipelines.
Pro-Chavez congressman Angel Rodriguez said Monday that Helvesa would begin supplying Venezuela's state-run oil company once the pipe manufacturer has been expropriated.
Helvesa representatives could not be immediately reached for comment.
Chavez's administration has already seized control of Venezuela's largest telephone and electricity companies.
