Talks to end Boeing strike enter 5th-straight day

Federally mediated negotiations to end a 52-day strike against the Boeing Co. resumed Monday for a fifth day after running into the wee hours the night before.
Talks at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Washington, D.C., on Sunday went past midnight, said Connie Kelliher, a spokeswoman for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in Seattle.
Kelliher and Tim Healy, a Boeing spokesman, confirmed that the negotiations resumed Monday after a break so the participants could get some sleep.
Mediators called the two sides to the table Thursday under a news blackout, and neither Boeing nor union officials have said whether there has been any progress.
Key issues include job security, wages, retirement benefits and medical coverage in the strike, which has shut down Boeing's commercial aircraft operations since Sept. 6.
IAM represents about 25,000 workers in and around Seattle, 1,500 in Gresham, Oregon, and 750 in Wichita, Kansas.
