Kuwaiti stock brokers demand to see ruler

A spokesman for hundreds of disgruntled Kuwaiti stock brokers says he has asked for a meeting with the ruler of the oil-rich state to ask him to temporarily close the plunging stock exchange.
Abdullah al-Hajiri says some 500 Kuwaitis were prepared to demonstrate Monday but he persuaded them to instead send a small delegation to the emir's palace. He says palace security promised they would get an appointment.
The Kuwaiti exchange is the second largest in the Gulf. It has been on a downward trend, partially blamed on the global financial crisis. The government has pumped liquidity into the market but sees no need to close it.
Also Monday, a court adjourned a case by investors who want the bourse closed by court order until Nov. 3.
