Polls give Livni edge over Netanyahu

New opinion polls give the ruling Kadima Party, headed by moderate Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, a small edge over the hawkish Likud, led by Benjamin Netanyahu.
The polls were published Monday, a day after Livni abandoned her efforts to form a new coalition without going to elections. She said she would not cave in to the "impossible" demands of parliamentary factions in the current government.
A poll by the Dahar Research Institute shows Kadima winning 29 of parliament's 120 seats and Likud taking 26. A TNS Teleseker survey gives Kadima 31 seats to Likud's 29.
Elections are expected to take place in February or March, a year and a half ahead of schedule. It would be the third national election in six years.
