Tottenham fire Ramos, Redknapp takes over

Harry Redknapp agreed to leave Portsmouth to replace Juande Ramos as Tottenham manager early Sunday.
Redknapp said a compensation package of five million pounds was agreed to between the English Premier League rivals and he expects to be officially unveiled within hours.
"It's a big, big opportunity to manage a big club before I retire," Redknapp said.
Tottenham fired Ramos late Saturday for the club's worst start to a season.
Beleaguered chairman Daniel Levy, who had been facing fans' protests on Sunday, acted quickly to fill the void by turning to Redknapp, who hauled back Portsmouth from the bring of relegation to FA Cup glory.
Spurs said Portsmouth FC reluctantly agreed to allow talks with Redknapp.
The announcements came exactly a year after Martin Jol was dumped and on the eve of the London club's English Premier League match against Bolton.
Spurs was lodged at the bottom of the league after taking just two points from its opening eight matches this season.
Sporting director Daniel Comolli, who has been blamed for his poor command of Tottenham's transfer activity, also left, and first team coaches Marcos Alvarez and Gus Poyet were also fired.
Clive Allen and Alex Inglethorpe will take charge for Sunday's match at White Hart Lane.
