Stoner takes Valencia GP pole position

Casey Stoner secured his ninth pole position of the season Saturday after qualifying fastest for the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix ahead of defending champion Dani Pedrosa.
The Australian, who won the 2007 championship with Ducati, had the best time of 1 minute, 31.502 seconds around the Cheste circuit to edge his Spanish opponent by five-hundreths of a second.
Pedrosa will start from the front row for the ninth time this season, while Honda teammate Nicky Hayden of the United States was unable to emulate his practice form and will start third.
The American rider, who will move to Ducati next season, skipped and slid around the 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) track to finish behind Pedrosa after having led all three practice sessions.
American rider Colin Edwards completes the second row ahead of Yamaha teammate James Toseland.
Valentino Rossi of Italy, who has already secured his sixth world championship, will start 10th.
In the 250cc category, Marco Simoncelli took pole on his Gilera ahead of Aprilia's Alex Debson, with KTM's Julian Simon starting third. Simoncelli has already clinched the championship.
Gabor Talmacsi was quicker than Aspar teammate Sergio Gadea to start his last 125cc race front of the grid. World champion Mike Di Meglio will start seventh.
Talmacsi will ride in the 250cc category for Aspar from next season.
