Former DPP chairman You Si-kun (Former, fifth from right) led the forth line, anti-one-China-market in the 1025 demonstration on Oct. 25, 2008.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – 1025 demonstration commences in five routes in Taipei at 3 pm. 500,000 people are expected to participate in the rally to support the causes brought forth by the Democratic Progressive Party, the Taiwan Solidarity Union, and other Taiwan-centric groups. As of 5:30 pm, one million people are estimated to join the rally.

Former president Chen Shui-bian arrived at the site of rally at 2:56 pm. Chen got off his car at SOGO Department Store near MRT Zhongxiao Fuhsing Station, waving to the greeting crowd. The security personnel were dispatched to protect Chen, for he received a death threat from a dissident a few days ago.

The rally cause was to defy against adulterated goods and care for Taiwan. DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) emphasized the three causes of oppositions: oppose incompetent government, oppose the hollowing out of sovereignty, and oppose a one china market. Tsai also intended to ask China for compensation, ask President Ma Ying-jeou to make apology, and ask Premier Liu Chao-hsiuan (劉兆玄) to step down. The three questions posed in the demonstration to President Ma were: whether Taiwan was a country or a region? Whether Ma’s election promise that Taiwan’s future would be determined by 23 million people was still valid? And whether China would compensate Taiwan for the toxic milk incident?

The march was divided into five columns and set out for the rally location at Ketegalan Boulevard at 3:00 p.m.
