Smith voted Australia's best in 2008

Backrower George Smith won the Australian rugby union's top individual prize Thursday, becoming the first player to win the John Eales Medal twice.
With players who participated in each match awarding points on a 3-2-1 basis, Smith polled 205 votes from 14 tests to beat Wycliff Palu (184) and flyhalf Matt Giteau (183).
The flanker, an 89-test veteran, also won the inaugural John Eales Medal in 2002.
"I'm very fortunate to get this again," the 28-year-old Smith said. "I really didn't expect this."
The Wallabies leave Monday for Hong Kong and the Nov. 1 Bledisloe Cup game against New Zealand before traveling on to Europe for four international matches.
