Santa Cruz signs new 4-year deal at Blackburn

Roque Santa Cruz signed a new four-year deal with Blackburn on Friday after the Premier League club rebuffed other clubs' interest in the Paraguay striker.
Rovers last week rejected a 12 million pound (US$22 million; euro15 million) bid from Manchester City for Santa Cruz, who is now tied up until June 2012.
"Roque is a tremendous player," midfielder David Dunn said Friday. "We are a club that is trying to achieve things ourselves and you couldn't let Brad Friedel, David Bentley and Roque Santa Cruz go in the same season. There's no way the club will let that happen."
Friedel joined Aston Villa and Bentley transferred to Tottenham.
The 27-year-old Santa Cruz scored 23 goals in his debut season and had three years remaining on his old deal.
He spent seven injury-plagued seasons at Bayern Munich before moving to Ewood Park in the last offseason.
