Penghu to host seafood carnival

Penghu County Government held a press conference for "2008 Penghu Seafood Carnival" on August 21 to make an early announcement of this upcoming carnival running from August 30 to September 30.
Wang Chien-fa, magistrate of Penghu County, sincerely invites everyone to Penghu to enjoy the fresh seafood and the beautiful scenery of this offshore island.
"This seafood carnival is to let people from the city taste the fresh seafood of Penghu. We offer authentic, traditional and healthy seafood that purely breed with water directly from the ocean. That is why seafood of Penghu tastes extremely fresh and delicious. We planned this carnival because I believe Penghu's seafood deserves to gain higher publicity nationwide and worldwide," said Magistrate Wang while addressing the conference.
"Besides the seafood", he went on, "I am confident to develop the tourism of this offshore island. It has naturally beautiful beach, the amazing landscape, the friendly people, and the fresh air and water that makes it an ideal vacation. I highly recommend the working people in the city to come to this natural heaven and get away from the noisy city for a while to relax. Though traffic remains a concern, we at least established some direct routes through air and water transport with cities in Taiwan".
Near the end of the conference, Magistrate Wang demonstrated the cooking of fresh cod fish, a famous Penghu production. He later on explained how the fish was caught with a primitive method that residents in Penghu adopt. First, people pile up rocks/stones and wait for the current to bring lots of fishes. The fish would inhabit in between the rocks. People then cover the piled up stones with fish net so that fishes are inside the net as well. Last, remove the stones to enjoy the fishes.
