Lena Schoneborn of Germany has won Olympic gold in the women's modern pentathlon.
Schoneborn led after the first four events and held on for the first-place finish despite finishing ninth in the 3,000-meter run. She finished 20th in shooting before making up ground as the top finisher in fencing.
A 10th-place finish in swimming and a fourth-place showing in the riding portion left her in the lead entering the last event.
Heather Fell of Britain got the silver after finishing third in swimming and fifth in running. The bronze went to Victoria Tereshuk of Ukraine, who was fifth in swimming and fencing and finished strong with a second-place finish in running.
