Prices marginally lower on Taipei bourse

Taiwan's share prices were marginally lower Friday, with the weighted index, the market's key barometer, decreasing 6.84 points, or 0.09 percent, to close at 6,911.64.
Finishing lower for the second consecutive day, the local bourse opened at 6,966.12 and fluctuated between 6,994.8 and 6,837.25. A total of 3.24 billion shares changed hands on a market turnover of NT$78.93 billion (US$2.52 billion).
Three of the eight major stock categories lost ground, with foodstuff issues moving down the most at 4.2 percent. Cement stocks declined 0.7 percent and machinery and electronics shares fell 0.2 percent.
Four of the eight major stock categories gained ground, with construction issues moving up the most at 1 percent. Paper and pulp issues advanced 0.6 percent, textile stocks rose 0.2 percent, and banking and financial shares increased 0.1 percent.
Plastics and chemicals shares remained unchanged.
Losers outnumbered gainers 1,405 to 620, with 447 stocks remaining unchanged.
Foreign investors were net sellers of shares worth NT$880 million.
