Hungary's Vajda wins gold in 1,000-meter canoe

Attila Vajda of Hungary has won the gold medal in men's 1,000-meter canoe single, moving a step up on the podium after winning bronze four years ago.
Vajda took a peek over his shoulder right after crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 50.467 seconds on Friday. No one was really close and Vajda thrust his fist into the air in celebration. Vajda _ who won bronze at the Athens Games _ splashed some water and bellowed toward the sideline.
David Cal of Spain won silver in 3:52.751. Cal was the defending gold medalist.
Thomas Hall of Canada took the bronze medal in 3:53.653.
