Tim Brabants of Britain has won the gold medal in men's 1,000-meter kayak single, returning to the medal podium for the first time in eight years.
Brabants took the lead at about the halfway mark and surged ahead to win in 3 minutes, 26.323 seconds on Friday. He won bronze in the 1,000 at the Sydney Games, but finished fifth in Athens.
Eirik Veraas Larsen of Norway took home the silver medal in 3:27.342. Larsen was the defending gold medalist.
