Catholic university sends medical volunteers to India

Fu Jen Catholic University in northern Taiwan sent a medical group of 19 volunteers to the eastern Indian city of Kolkata Thursday for a 10-day mission.
University President Bernard Chien-chiu Li told the volunteers prior to their departure that they should deeply understand what other people need and accumulate some life experience during the trip.
Second-year students Yang Ya-ching and Tsai Wan-ying described the trip as a rare opportunity to experience life and said they hope to grow personally through serving others.
University Vice President Michael Wei-Hsia Kwo, who is leading the group, lauded the students for spending their summer vacation in a meaningful manner.
He said he hopes they will "learn from doing" and learn to cherish life during the trip.
The group members will serve as medial volunteers at five centers in the city, where they will serve poor and seriously ill street people and children.
