Appeals court denies Conrad Black's appeal

A federal appeals court panel has decided not to re-examine former press magnate Conrad Black's fraud and obstruction-of-justice convictions.
In an order issued this month, a three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago denied Black's petition for all active judges to consider the case. The same panel in June upheld the convictions of Black and three others.
The panel wrote that none of the judges had "requested a vote on the petition for rehearing."
Black was convicted last year of defrauding the Hollinger International media empire he once ran out of $6 million and removing boxes of documents from his Toronto office.
He is serving a 6 1/2-year prison sentence.
