Ramos struggling to sign new Spurs striker

Tottenham is pressing ahead with its search for a new striker while uncertainty surrounds Dimitar Berbatov's future, and after Zenit St. Petersburg ruled out selling Andrei Arshavin this year.
The Russian club told Arshavin on Wednesday that he can't leave before the European transfer window closes at the end of August because Spurs failed to meet Monday's deadline to conclude a deal.
The English Premier League side is still seeking a replacement for Robbie Keane after the Ireland striker moved to Liverpool.
"We've got a list of targets that we are working very hard on," Spurs manager Juande Ramos said Thursday. "Negotiations are tough and sometimes they are even tougher than usual. We know what we are working towards and we know what our objectives are.
"The process of signing players sometimes takes time, but fans should be aware we are trying to strengthen up front and sign a new forward. Quite often these things take time."
Meanwhile, Berbatov remains the main target for Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson as he also seeks an additional striker. Tottenham, however, has yet to accept a bid for the Bulgaria forward, and Ramos said he is just focused on training his players.
Berbatov came off the bench to play the latter stages of last Saturday's 2-1 loss at Middlesbrough in the season opener. Ramos wouldn't say if Berbatov would start against Sunderland on Saturday, but the Spaniard is confident there won't be a hostile reception at the first home match of the Premier League season.
"Tottenham fans are no exception to any others _ they support the team and get behind the side," Ramos said. "If a player is on form, if he knocks in a couple of goals then I'm sure anyone who booed him last week will soon be getting behind him and cheering him. That is what it is like.
"While he is still here, he is very much 100 percent a Tottenham player; that is how we consider things. It is not a case of finding a solution to a problem before it occurs."
After beginning the season with a loss, Ramos also craves a defensive signing. A deal for Manchester City's Vedran Corluka collapsed earlier this month.
"It's true to say we have one or two areas that we need to look at defensively and maybe solve a few problems at the back," Ramos said.
