BTCO announces Scholarship winners
The British Trade and Cultural Office yesterday announced the seven winners for BTCO Scholarships 2008/09. Michael Reilly, Director of the BTCO met with the winners and wished them a fruitful year's study in the UK.
Mr Reilly congratulated the winners and said, "The successful scholars are drawn from government, civil society and business backgrounds, highlighting the breadth of the programme."
Chen investigation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday that it has completed its internal investigation of the handling of money-laundering allegations involving former President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) and will submit its report to its disciplinary committee.
"The investigation found the related officials guilty of dereliction of duty. Foreign Minister Francisco Ou has instructed the case be sent to the ministry's merit evaluation and disciplinary committee," said MOFA spokesman Henry Chen (陳銘政).
Nuri brings rain
The Central Weather Bureau (中央氣象局) forecasted rains around most parts of Taiwan yesterday as it lifted a sea warning for Typhoon Nuri.
CWB forecasters said the weather over Taiwan would be unstable Friday, with showers expected all day in the southeastern and southern regions and thunder showers expected in the afternoon in the central and northern regions.
