Olga Kapranova of Russia topped the standings in rhythmic gymnastics qualifying after the first day Thursday.
Kapranova earned a total score of 36.825 in the rope and hoop portions of the event. Athletes will use clubs and ribbon in qualifying Friday.
Evgeniya Kanaeva of Russia is second with 36.550 points, followed by Anna Bessonova of Ukraine, a 2004 bronze medalist.
Kapranova received the best rope score at 18.350. Kanaeva was the top gymnast with the hoop, receiving 18.7 points.
Belarus led team qualifying after one day at 17.525 points. China was second at 17.3, and Italy was third at 17.15.
Russia, seeking a third consecutive group all-around title, was fourth.
