Hamburg sends Kompany to Manchester City

Hamburger SV has released Belgium defender Vincent Kompany and agreed to let him join Manchester City.
"We are very pleased. In the past two years, he has not lived up to our expectations," Hamburg chief Bernd Hoffmann said Thursday. He did not give any details of the deal with City.
Kompany was not a starter at Hamburg, playing 28 games and scoring one goal.
He angered club officials after leaving to play for Belgium at the Olympics. Because of an agreement between Hamburg and the Belgian federation, he was forced to return before the end of the group stage and strongly criticized the club for making him come back.
