Canada draws Jamaica 1-1

Canada draws Jamaica 1-1

Canada gave up an unlikely goal and dropped two valuable points in a 1-1 draw with Jamaica in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.
Canada has five matches remaining _ three on the road _ in the penultimate round of qualifying in CONCACAF and can ill afford to squander points on home turf.
Jamaica secured the draw in the 52nd minute on a bending Andrew Williams corner that seemed to handcuff the normally reliable Pat Onstad, who appeared to knock the ball in himself. A torrent of flying streamers from the stands didn't bother the Jamaican midfielder, who took the corner quickly and was surprisingly rewarded.
Onstad recovered to acrobatically paw away a Williams free kick minutes later.
Canada midfielder Julian De Guzman scored two minutes after halftime when he hammered the ball home off Tomasz Radzinski's header before 21,978 at BMO Field.
Jamaica goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts stood out to save the draw, pulling off a pair of outstanding reflex saves on Dwayne De Rosario and Radzinski in the 71st, and denying a Rob Friend header off a corner minutes later. In a frantic finale, De Guzman hit the post in the 87th and De Rosario had an open goal but his shot was blocked by a desperate defender in the 90th.
Canada, looking to end 22 years of being a World Cup watcher rather than participant, hosts Honduras next at Montreal on Sept. 6. Jamaica will welcome Mexico.
