Davydenko, Robredo advance to second round at Warsaw Open

Title favorites Nikolay Davydenko and Tommy Robredo earned straight-sets victories in the first round of the Warsaw Open on Tuesday.
Top-seeded Davydenko, the 2006 champion, beat French Open doubles winner Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-3, 6-2, while No. 2 Robredo, who won his second Warsaw title last year, beat Polish wild card Michal Przysiezny 7-5, 6-2 at Warszawianka Sports Club.
Davydenko, winner of two titles this year, was second on the ATP tour with 37 match wins.
All the other seeds bar No. 4 Gilles Simon of France reached the second round.
Simon lost to Belgian qualifier Christophe Rochus 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The result will help Rochus, who fell out of the top 100 more than a year ago to 194 and has lifted it to 115 with success on the challenger circuit.
No. 3 Juan Monaco accounted for another Polish wild card, Jerzy Janowicz, 6-4, 6-3, and No. 5 Guillermo Canas won 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-4 against Luis Horna of Peru, who won the French Open doubles last week with Cuevas.
Two Spanish seeds advanced with almost identical scores; No. 7 Marcel Granollers defeated Michal Mertinak of Slovakia 7-6 (2), 6-4 and No. 8 Albert Montanes beat Czech Republic's David Skoch 7-6 (4), 6-4.
