The Sporting News announces changes, cites shifts in news consumption

The Sporting News, a weekly staple for many American baseball and general sports fans for over a century, is making major changes that reflect shifts in the way the United States consumes sports news.
It plans to start a free digital publication in July called Sporting News Today. It will deliver scores and statistics to subscribers via e-mail every morning.
The Sporting News officials say the print edition will be reintroduced as a biweekly publication with more color and better paper, and feature contributions from sports experts.
The publication has been around since 1886. Once known as the Bible of Baseball for its devotion to box scores and statistics, The Sporting News is moving from St. Louis to Charlotte, North Carolina, home to its parent company, American City Business Journals.
