Airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG's May passenger numbers rose 3.2 percent from the same month a year earlier to 5.2 million passengers, the company said Tuesday.
The company's SWISS unit also added 1.2 million passengers to the group's totals in May, a 15.3 percent increase over a year ago.
Lufthansa said its passenger load factor, a measure of how full airplanes are, fell 0.2 percentage points to 78.4 percent, as the airline increased capacity by 5.1 percent.
Lufthansa said SWISS' load factor increased 0.9 percentage points to 79.3 percent, while the airline increased capacity by 15.3 percent.
Both Lufthansa and SWISS reported solid gains in sales for the month.
The cargo load factor for the Lufthansa group overall was 62.8 percent, a decrease of 2.7 percentage points, with 158,000 tons of freight and mail flown.
Shares of Deutsche Lufthansa were trading up 1.5 percent at euro15.82 (US$24.52) in Frankfurt afternoon trading.
