Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region

A strengthening low pressure system in the East China Sea south of the Korean peninsula is forecast to bring clouds and rain to southern Japan and parts of southeastern China on Wednesday. Moderate rain can be expected from southern Japan through Shanghai to Nanning.
A separate weak low pressure system will likely ensure the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido and the southeastern coast of Russia experience cloudy skies and scattered light rain in the coming days.
Inland areas of East Asia are expected to remain hot and clear, except in Southeast Asia where heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely because it is the monsoon season.
Temperatures in Japan are forecast in the low to mid-20s Celsius, while temperatures in Taiwan will reach the upper 20s C.
Light to moderate rain is forecast Wednesday for New South Wales and Tasmania in southeastern Australia, with heavier rainfall expected Thursday. The southwestern tip of the continent can also expect scattered showers.
Northern Australia will remain mostly dry under high pressure, although some light showers and thunderstorms are possible along the Queensland coast. Temperatures in the north will be near 30 C, while southern Australia should be in the teens.
