Japan core machinery orders rise 5.5 percent in April

Japan says its core machinery orders, a key barometer of capital spending, rose 5.5 percent in April from the previous month.
The increase follows an 8.3 percent drop in March and a 12.3 percent plunge in February, the government said in a monthly report Tuesday.
Core machinery orders, which exclude often volatile orders from electric power firms and those for ships, are considered a gauge of business investment in the future.
On a year-on-year basis, core machinery orders gained 0.5 percent in April.
