Alan Shearer touted as Blackburn manager

Blackburn's search for a coach has attracted more than 40 applicants, with former England striker Alan Shearer likely to be among them.
Blackburn chairman John Williams isn't dampening the momentum gathering behind Shearer, who helped lead the club to its only Premier League title in 1995.
As he entered Ewood Park for Monday's specially convened board meeting, Williams wouldn't comment directly on Shearer's potential appointment.
"There are over 40 names on the list," Williams told British broadcaster Sky Sports News. "It is a good list, a healthy list with lots of interesting applicants. "We will start work today and see where we go. I hope we would have something within a week to 10 days."
Shearer is the fans' favorite to replace Mark Hughes, who switched to Manchester City last week.
Shearer, who is contracted to the British Broadcasting Corp. as a pundit, scored 130 goals in 171 appearances before joining Newcastle in 1996.
