Sen. Kennedy released from hospital following brain cancer surgery, headed home to Mass.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has checked out of a North Carolina hospital after undergoing an aggressive and delicate surgery to treat a cancerous brain tumor.
A spokeswoman at Duke University Medical Center says the Massachusetts Democrat left the hospital in Durham on Monday.
Kennedy's office says the 76-year-old senator will recuperate at home before starting the next phase of his treatment.
The veteran Democratic senator was diagnosed last month with a malignant glioma after having a seizure at his home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. A malignant glioma is a lethal type of brain tumor and is diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year.
Kennedy underwent a risky, 3 1/2-hour surgery a week ago to remove as much of the tumor as possible. The procedure aims to improve the success of chemotherapy and radiation.
