Euro 2008 Cup in Taipei opens

The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, also known as the Euro 2008, is hosted by Austria and Switzerland this year from June 7 to 29. 16 European football nations including the two host countries Austria and Switzerland, and Greece, Italy, Germany, France, Croatia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Russia, Spain, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands will compete for the title.
In Taiwan, besides the many broadcasts in sports bars, the Austrian Tourism Office and the Trade Office of Swiss Industries (TOSI) will regularly organize events throughout June to hail to its European counterpart on the other side of the globe.
For example, on Saturday June 7, a children soccer tournament already took place at the Taipei European School (TES) on its Tien Mu premises. Traditional Austrian and Swiss food and beverages were offered in this open air fair along with side attractions such as a human football table, a goal board, a bouncy castle, and face painting.
The upcoming event will be Euro 2008 Friendship Soccer Tournament, an indoor adult football match to be held at Taipei Municipal Chengde Elementary School on June 14. There will be 1 Taiwanese team and 7 European teams competing for the Euro 2008 Cup in Taipei, competition expected to be fiercer than the mini soccer event. A prize draw will be held together with the award ceremony. For public transportation, please take MRT blue line to Houshanpi or Buses 212, 279, 281, 284.
