Sports court takes up Jessica Kuerten's appeal against ban

The Court of Arbitration for Sport said Friday it will deal urgently with showjumper Jessica Kuerten's appeal against suspension for using a banned medication on her horse.
Kuerten, the world's No. 2-ranked showjumper who is based in Germany but rides for Ireland, is appealing a two-month ban imposed by the FEI equestrian governing body which was due to begin Saturday.
A provisional decision on whether Kuerten can compete during the appeal process will be given by CAS lawyers early next week.
An FEI tribunal suspended Kuerten last month, after her horse Castle Forbes Maike tested positive for a banned medication, etoricoxib, at an event in La Baule, France, in May 2007. Her legal team has denied the substance was present.
Kuerten announced last week she had declined an invitation to ride for Ireland at the Olympics in August.
