Over a hundred Filipinos attended a thanksgiving mass hosted by Filipino entrepreneur Bing Go at her Jhongli outlet earlier this month.
The mass was celebrated by Reverends Peter O'Neill of the Hope Workers Center and Joy Tajonera of the Ugnayan Migrant and Immigrant Ministry in Tantzu, Taichung County.
"I would like to express my sincerest thanks to Father Peter and Father Joy for joining us in our New Year's Day celebration," Go said. "That thanksgiving mass was also our way of saying 'thank you' to our loyal customers in Jhongli, and of course, to our Lord God who had given us so much blessings in 2005."
Following the mass, guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet.
In addition to the Jhongli celebration, Go also threw a Christmas and New Year's Day party at her Taipei branch on Zhongshan North Road. Last December 24 and December 31, she treated everyone - including her non-customers - to a free noche buena (Christmas Eve feast) and media noche (New Year's Eve dinner). Tons of give-aways, from stuffed toys to fancy calendars, were also distributed to revelers, Go said.
On January 29, the retailer is going to raffle off 100 cellular phones. Customers who purchase at least NT$300-worth of merchandise will automatically get one raffle ticket.
Considered a household name among Filipinos in Taiwan, Go and her husband, Awei, started their retailing business with a "mobile" store. Today, they are operating 11 outlets in the country.
