Herrero takes third stage of Tour of Basque Country; Contador retains overall lead

David Herrero of Spain won the third stage of the Tour of Basque Country, and Tour de France champion Alberto Contador stayed overall leader for the third straight day Wednesday.
Herrero finished the 195-kilometer (121-mile) stage _ the longest at the 48th edition _ in 4 hours, 54 minutes, 24 seconds.
Luis Leon Sanchez of Spain was runner-up, while world champion Paolo Bettini of Italy placed third.
Contador finished the three stages in 12:14:28. The Spaniard leads second-place Ezequiel Mosquera, also of Spain, by 3 seconds.
Thursday's 171-kilometer (106-mile) fourth stage takes riders to Vitoria.
