US dollar mostly lower, gold up in European trading

The U.S. dollar was mostly lower against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday. Gold rose.
The euro traded at US$1.577, up from US$1.5721 late Tuesday in New York.

The British pound was quoted at US$1.9733, up from $1.9690.
Gold traded in London at US$925.20 per troy ounce, up from US$909.80 late Tuesday.
In Zurich, gold traded at US$924.35 bid per troy ounce, up from US$910.05.
Silver closed in London at US$18.24, up from US$17.57.
