China Shipping Container in talks to buy parent's terminal company

China Shipping Container Lines Co., the country's second-largest carrier of sea-cargo boxes, is in talks to buy a terminal unit from its parent as growing global trade boosts sea-freight demand.
The shipping line didn't say how much it may pay for China Shipping Terminal Development Co. in a Hong Kong stock exchange statement late yesterday. CS Terminal, the unit, has stakes in 17 container-handling ventures in cities including Dalian, Shanghai and Guangzhou, according to its Web site.
Container terminal operators including Hutchison Port Holdings Ltd., the world's biggest, have added facilities in China because of surging exports of furniture, toys and other goods. State-owned China Shipping (Group) Co.'s possible sale of the terminals to its unit is in line with a government drive to inject assets into listed companies to boost competitiveness and financial transparency.
