Taiwan to hold car electronics show

Taiwan will hold its first trade show featuring automobile electronics in April to provide impetus for its electronic manufacturers to further upgrade the quality of their products.

The 2006 Taipei International Automobile Electronics Show will take place at the Taipei World Trade Center April 17-20 alongside the 2006 Taipei International Digital Electronics Show under the sponsorship of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association.

A spokesman for TAITRA pointed out yesterday that the automotive electronics industry has become increasingly important as a result of growing market demand and that the government has decided to invest NT$10 billion to help Taiwan's electronics industry to tap further into the world market.

He quoted a report by Strategy Analytics, an international research and consulting firm that provides strategic and tactical support for business planners, as indicating that electronics now constitute about one-third of a car's production cost and that the total production of the world's automotive electronics industry is expected to grow to US$163.5 billion by 2008.

The spokesman said the show is expected to attract more than 1,200 exhibitors and 2,200 buyers from around the world and some 60,000 visitors from related industries.
