Sri Lanka fined for slow over rate in last tri-series match

Sri Lanka's cricketers returned home with less prize money in their pockets after being fined in their last tri-series limited-overs match.
The International Cricket Council said Sunday that Sri Lanka was fined for maintaining a slow over rate during its 13-run win over Australia on Friday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Sri Lanka failed to make the series finals and returned home after the match.
Match referee Jeff Crowe imposed the fine after Mahela Jayawardena's team was ruled to be one over short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration.
Under the ICC code of conduct regulations, Jayawardena was fined 10 percent of his match fee and each of his players received five percent fines, although the exact amounts were not disclosed.
