Super 14: Sharks beat Bulls 29-15 with 3 late tries

Three tries in 10 minutes gave the Sharks a 29-15 win over the Bulls on Saturday in the Super 14.
With J.P. Nel off the field for 10 minutes after he spear-tackled Francois Steyn, the Bulls' defenses were a man short. The Sharks took the opportunity to turn a 15-10 deficit into victory in the final quarter through tries by flyhalf Frederic Michalak, flanker Keegan Daniel and replacement flanker Jacques Botes. The three tries came between the 73rd and 78th minutes.
The Bulls spent much of the first half inside the Sharks' 22-meter area and, although winger Danwell Demas crossed to fall on a kick-ahead by Morne Steyn, he was ruled to have knocked the ball on.
Morne Steyn kicked two penalties in the only reward for pressure by the Bulls in the first half, with Sharks lock Johan Ackerman yellow-carded for a punch in the third minute.
The Sharks absorbed all the pressure, and started to get more time in the Bulls' territory toward the end of the first half.
Bulls lock Danie Rossouw was sent to the sin bin for deliberately killing the ball while the Sharks were attacking. The Sharks took advantage of their one-man advantage and worked the ball to Odwa Ndungane on the right wing after a series of forward rushes.
Ndungane's try was converted by scrumhalf Rory Kockott to give the Sharks a 7-6 advantage at halftime.
Steyn kicked two more penalties and a drop goal in the second half, but the Bulls always looked unlikely to cross the Sharks' tryline as they reverted to predictable play which the experimental law variations have been designed to cut out.
Nel's dismissal sparked relentless attack by the Sharks, and Michalak's try gave them the confidence to attack again immediately after Kockott missed the conversion attempt of the French international's try.
Daniel rounded off a sweeping attack from that kickoff, taking an inside pass from Botes, and then Botes swooped on a loose ball and slithered over under the posts to seal the victory and gain the extra scoring point.
